About Us

We moved to Kamakura in the spring of 2018.  We arrived with two dogs and six pieces of luggage. After living and working in the Washington, DC area for many years, the opportunity of semi-retirement presented itself and we began planning, consolidating, packing and saying goodbye.  It was time to permanently live in the place we had only temporarily visited, yet the place that stole our hearts.  We feel incredibly fortunate to have made this dream a reality and thought we would create this website in order to share our growing insider knowledge as we continue living and learning here in Kamakura.

Miho was born and raised in Yokohama.  After graduating from high school, she went to the United States for college and worked there for over 20 years.  She lived in Maine, Massachusetts, Maryland and Virginia before returning to her home country.  This is her first time living in Japan as an adult and her perspective is equally American as it is Japanese.

Greg grew up in Colorado.  He holds a Master’s degree in Comparative Literature, spent two years teaching English through the Peace Corps in Ethiopia, and twenty years working for the U.S. Department of the Interior.  Greg fell in love with Japan the first time he visited in 2014.  He found himself surprisingly at home in this foreign land, especially in Kamakura.  These days, he is busy exploring Kamakura on foot, reading up on local history, posting photos on Instagram, writing blogs, roasting coffee and making lattes.  He is also studying hard to learn Japanese.
